Uni Year 2- Fashion Aims

After a long, exciting and stressful summer, it's almost time for me to return to Birmingham. I'm incredibly excited to start my second year of university and the prospect of a fresh start. I will be moving into a shared house, starting a new job, preparing for my year abroad and studying hard (this year my grades will count towards my degree)!

Although I enjoyed first year, I spent the majority of it feeling uncomfortable in my appearance. I would always enjoy putting together outfits but would rarely allow myself to wear pieces I loved because I never felt confident enough. I also used to wear a lot of clothes that were quite tight or uncomfortable just because they were the only things I felt I looked okay in, which sometimes made me resent getting dressed in the morning.

Now returning to university, my priorities have shifted. Although I still enjoy following fashion, I lack the budget or reason to religiously follow trends like I used to. Although I've still got a little way to go, I have lost enough weight to start wearing some of the clothes I enjoy, and surprisingly my taste in fashion has changed significantly. My first priority will be comfort, (hours in cold lecture halls and rushing frantically between them), and my second will be individuality.

I'm not going to strive to be completely different because that can lack originality and look a little 'try-hard'. I simply want to get to the point where each item of clothing I own makes me feel happy, whether it's a comfy, plain black t-shirt; my crazy, elephant-print  trousers from holiday, or my bright yellow Doc Martens. I want to minimise the amount of time I spend choosing what to wear.

So after a longer than necessary introduction, here is a list of fashion intentions for my second year of university:

FASHION AIMS

  1. Branch away from skirts. I want to experiment more with structured trousers, culottes, dungarees, different cuts of jeans... I'm sick of constantly pulling up tights or feeling restrained in skinny jeans
  2. Wear more colours and prints. colour makes me happy, so I want to try and wear more of it.
  3. Wear more hats, again why not?
  4. Fell confident in a bodycon item of clothing
  5. DIY my own denim jacket
  6. Own less clothes- Having a tidy room makes me feel so much more in control. I would rather have 10 peices of good-quality clothing than 30 ill-fitting garments that are falling apart.
  7. To not be afraid of wearing gym clothes. I will be doing alot of sport during the term and it would save me alot of time and effort if i just wore them to lectures too.

I know there aren't that many here, but i still thought it would be fun to document.
Thanks for reading!
